Welcome to the 2026 season on Big Bear Lake! Whether you're gearing up to lay down some massive wake, dialing in your wake surf wave, or just looking for a glassy morning paddle session, summer is officially knocking on the door. Here at Blauer Board Shop, we know that epic days on the water start with good planning.
To help you hit the lake without a hitch, we’ve put together your ultimate 2026 update on Big Bear’s water levels, marina statuses, and what you need to know before you launch.
2026 Water Levels: What’s the Drop?
If you've been following winter precipitation, you know the snowpack dictates our summer lake levels. As of May 2026, Big Bear Lake is about 6 feet 8 inches below full capacity. What does this mean for your ride?
- Plenty of Depth for Watersports: At just under 7 feet down, the lake still holds massive volume (over 54,000 acre-feet). There is more than enough depth for wakeboarding, wakesurfing, and waterskiing in the main channels.
- Mind the Shorelines: If you’re riding a boat with a deep draft or heavy ballast, be more mindful when pulling into shallow coves or approaching the shoreline. Keep an eye on the buoys and give the edges extra respect this year.
- Water Temps: Right now, the water temperature is in the low-to-mid 50s (°F). It's warming quickly with the spring sun, but if you’re riding early season, you’ll want a solid wetsuit. Swing by the shop—we’ve got fresh neoprene in stock!
Marina & Launch Ramp Updates
The 2026 boating season officially kicked off on April 1st, and operations are in full swing. Here’s what you need to know about getting your vessel on the water:
- Public Launch Ramps: The East Public Launch Ramp is open and operating daily from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Hours will extend as we get deeper into summer. The West Ramp remains closed, so plan to route your morning drop-ins to the East Ramp.
- Marinas: All the major commercial marinas around the lake are open for slip rentals, fuel, and supplies. If you haven't reserved your slip for the busy holiday weekends yet, do it now.
The Golden Rule: Quagga Mussel Inspections & Permits
Big Bear Lake takes its ecosystem seriously. To protect the lake from invasive species, every single vessel (both motorized and non-motorized, including paddleboards and kayaks) MUST be inspected and permitted before hitting the water.
For the Wakeboard/Wakesurf Crowd: Pay special attention to your ballast systems. If your boat has ballast tanks or bags, ensure they are bone-dry before you arrive. If your boat requires decontamination due to damp ballasts, the fee is $300 this year.
- Pro-Tip: Get your free quarantine band when you pull out of the lake. If you keep the band intact until your next visit, you can bypass the inspection line next time!
Pre-Season Gear Check at Blauer Board Shop
Before you back the trailer down the ramp, make sure your setup is dialed. Have you checked your bindings for dry rot? Is your Coast Guard-approved life jacket still floating properly? Do you need a larger wake surf board to compensate for the crew size?
Stop by Blauer Board Shop before you hit the water. We are fully stocked with the 2026 lineups of wakeboards, wakesurfers, SUPs, and USCG-approved vests. Our crew is ready to talk setups, give you the local rundown on the smoothest water, and make sure your 2026 season is your best one yet.
See you out on the water!
